The film from Nintendo and Illumination, being released worldwide by Universal Pictures, has grossed 347.8 million dollars in North America from Friday to Sunday. It currently stands as the highest-grossing film of the year in North America.
The film had "a tremendous second weekend" against a mind-blowingly second-weekend drop, Comscore's senior movie analyst Paul Dergarabedian wrote in an email to Xinhua, noting that "its performance is a testament to the love audiences have for this incredibly fun romp at the multiplex."
Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" features an all-star voice cast, including Chris Pratt as Mario.
Internationally, the film has grossed an estimated 330.1 million dollars, including over 17.17 million dollars from the Chinese mainland, pushing its total global revenue to 678 million dollars.
