The Zhejiang Lions nosed out the Beijing Royal Fighters 107-102 in overtime, while the Zhejiang Golden Bulls sailed past the Shanxi Loongs 102-85 in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league on Monday.
Zhejiang started as they meant to go on, building a 13-point lead in the midway of the first quarter, driven by Kyle Wiltjer's consecutive 3-pointers. Robert Golden led the Royal Fighters to cut the deficit to three points at the end of the first quarter.
Golden continued his rhythm in mid-range shooting in the second quarter, leading the Royal Fighters to reverse the momentum and win by seven points.
After a seesaw battle in the third quarter, the Royal Fighters powered through a 12-5 scoring run to open the fourth quarter. However, Zhejiang quickly came from behind via Wiltjer's 3-pointer and Zhao Yanhao's mid-range jumper in clutch time. The game was tied 94-94 after Sun Minghui missed the buzzer-beater in regular time for Zhejiang.
The overtime only saw Hu Jinqiu stand out and dominate the paint for Zhejiang. He scored a team-high 25 points at night and Sun added 24 points, plus 14 assists.
The Golden Bulls established an 18-point lead to start the game against Shanxi. After a tied match in the second quarter, the Golden Bulls widened the gap in the second half and maintained a 20-point advantage until the end.
Six players from the Golden Bulls scored in double digits, led by Cheng Shuaipeng's 24. Jonathon Simmons scored a game-high 27 points and dished seven assists for Shanxi.
Elsewhere on Monday, the Shanghai Sharks had a narrow win against the Sichuan Blue Whales 112-109, the Tianjin Pioneers overcame the Qingdao Eagles 115-101, and the Guangzhou Loong Lions defeated the Nanjing Monkey Kings 101-95.
