Javier Tebas, president of Spain's La Liga, on Thursday mocked proposals for a new European Super League.

The new proposals for a Super League, proposed

by Bernd Reichard, CEO of the company A22, which promotes the project, envisage an open competition of between 60 and 80 clubs divided into four divisions.

That is considerably different to the failed project for a closed 12-team tournament presented in 2021.

This initial Super League collapsed after hostility from supporters of Premier League sides Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool, which led those teams to withdraw.

"The Super League is a wolf that today has disguised itself as a grandma to try and fool European football, but its nose and its teeth are still very big," Tebas commented.

"Four divisions in Europe? Of course, but the first division will be for them, as in the [previous] plans," continued Tebas in clear reference to Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, adding "the clubs governing the competition? The big clubs, obviously."
