Themed on Harmonious Symbiosis, a biennale that showcases 122 artworks of artists from 11 countries including China, Argentina, Italy and Belgium kicked off on Tuesday in Urumqi, Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur
The event, China Xinjiang International Art Biennale which will run until Feb 25, consists of three sections that respectively highlight the diversity of artistic expressions in different cultures around the globe, with observations on Central Asian people's spiritual world as well as the relation between humankind and ecological civilization.
More than 70 domestic and foreign artists have been invited to express their thoughts on the abovementioned topics through varied forms such as painting, sculpture, photography and installation.
The event aims to further promote dialogues among countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative and tell Xinjiang's story in a comprehensive way, says Ma Xuguo, deputy director of the region's department of culture and tourism.
