The sequel to 2018's box office hit "Black Panther" has grossed 288 million dollars in North America for a global cume of 546 million dollars to date.
Directed by African-American filmmaker Ryan Coogler, "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" stars Angela Bassett, Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke and Florence Kasumba, among others. The film follows the heroes of the fictional kingdom of Wakanda who fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T'Challa's death.
In a distant second place, Searchlight Picture's black comedy thriller film "The Menu" opened with 9 million dollars. Another newcomer, Fathom Events' "The Chosen Season 3: Episode 1 & 2" finished third with 8.2 million dollars.
